The Police must be accountable at all levels
Hertfordshire Police Authority Chairman has written to Public Servant Magazine in response to an interview with Sir Huge Orde, President of the Association of Chief Police Officers
In his interview with the magazine, Sir Hugh talks about the important role of Chief Officers coming together to lead and represent the police service. David Lloyd took issue with the implication that the national voice for policing must be delivered solely through Chief Police Officers.
In response, David said “The bedrock of policing is supposed to be the tripartite nature of delivery – Chief Officer, Police Authority/Commissioner and the Home Secretary. It is important that as the government develops the arrangements for the future, the tripartite principles are apparent at all levels. Police and Crime Commissioners will be accountable to the public for the totality of policing in their area. Structures must therefore be in place for Commissioners to direct and hold to account those responsible for development and delivery of national policing functions”.
