Bushey Crime Reduction Group Tour Hertfordshire Constabulary’s County Control Room

Members of the Bushey Crime Reduction Group (CRG) were invited to tour Hertfordshire Constabulary’s County Control Room (CCR) on Wednesday 11 November. bushey crg ccr vsit 300x180

The tour was arranged when a Bushey resident raised concerns at the last CRG meeting about the length of time in which a caller is asked to wait on the phone for a non-emergency call.

The visit was organised to give CRG members a greater understanding of how call-operating works and what happens when a 999 or non-emergency call is received.

Brenda Griffiths, Police Authority Lead (PAL) member for Hertsmere said: “The Constabulary work really hard to ensure that the people of Hertfordshire are absolutely satisfied with their experiences in dealing with the police.

“Upon hearing that a valued member of the Bushey CRG was unhappy with this service, we were determined to turn this around and show all members the fantastic work that is being done in the County Control Room.

“As part of the national Policing Pledge, the Constabulary have a duty to answer all non-emergency calls promptly, and was already exceeding the response time to 999 calls even before the Pledge was introduced.”

People who joined the tour included Councillor Anita Gamble, Chair of the Bushey CRG and local resident, Robert Gamble, Vice Chair of the Bushey CRG, Councillor Miki Colne, Bushey North Councillor and local resident and Councillor John Donne, Hertsmere Borough Council portfolio holder for community safety.

The Constabulary’s impressive County Control Room was officially opened in 2007 and is currently staffed by around 230 employees, dealing with on average 36,000 incidents per month.
