These are the results of a telephone survey that was conducted in these areas which asked local people whether they agree that:

“The police and local council are dealing with the anti-social behaviour and crime issues that matter in this area”.

Care should be taken in making comparisons in local indicators that have used different survey techniques.

The survey is based on a random survey of people in the local area. The use of a random sample aims to ensure the results are statistically representative of the local population. Compared to other estimates of how the population is made up, the sample for this survey may under represent some subgroups.

The survey was undertaken by telephone between October 2009 and January 2010.

Context

Crime continues to fall in the county – in 2008/9 alone it reduced by over 5%, or 4,000 fewer victims. This meant  Hertfordshire ended the year at its lowest level since 2003, making the county one of the safest in England.  The trend has continued, with crime falling a further 7% to January 2010

The Constabulary has also improved its performance in solving crime and has increased its detection rate to just under 35%.  It is working with partners to constantly target the small number of prolific offenders who commit a disproportionate amount of crime in the County.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams, Police Numbers and Partnerships

Over 700 police officers, Police Community Support Officers , Police Staff and Special Constables in Hertfordshire are working in or with Safer Neighbourhood Teams across the county.  They are working closely with communities, local authorities and other agencies to identify and tackle crime and disorder at a local level.

The National Policing Pledge has been adopted by all forces across England and Wales and sets out the standards of service people should expect from their local police force.

The Police Authority and Constabulary have pledged their support for responsive, accessible and visible policing and initiatives to continually improve levels and quality of service have been in place for many years, This has given us a strong base for the development of local Safer Neighbourhood Policing and delivery of our Policing Pledges.

Recently, Hertfordshire was one of only three forces graded as “exceeding national standards” for citizen focused policing by Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabularies and we have some of the highest satisfaction rates in the country.

We remain committed to providing the best possible police service to meet your needs and will continue to work with our partners to deal with your local concerns, and would welcome your involvement.
